The Venue

REFSQ 2027 will be hosted at the FHNW Dreispitz Campus in Basel — a brand-new building in one of the city's most exciting urban development areas. The campus is a collaborative space shared by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) and several creative and research institutions.

The new campus building is currently under construction and is expected to open late Summer 2026. Further details and photos will be added here once the venue is ready.

Getting to Basel

By Air

The closest airport is EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL/MLH), located just 20 minutes from the city centre by bus or taxi. It serves a wide range of European and international destinations.

Zurich Airport (ZRH) is also a convenient option — Basel is reachable from Zurich by direct train in approximately 55 minutes.

By Train

Basel is one of Switzerland's best-connected rail hubs. Direct trains run from:

  • Zurich — approx. 55 min
  • Bern — approx. 55 min
  • Geneva — approx. 3 hrs
  • Zurich Airport — approx. 1 hr

International connections are excellent, with direct trains from Paris, Amsterdam, and major German cities. Basel has two main stations: Basel SBB (Swiss/French lines) and Basel Bad Bf (German lines).

Getting to the Dreispitz Campus

The campus is well served by Basel's public transport network. Specific tram and bus connections will be listed here closer to the conference.

Basel

Basel is a compact, walkable city with an exceptional quality of life and a rich cultural scene — a fitting backdrop for a conference on software quality.

  • Art & Culture — Basel is home to over 40 museums, including the renowned Kunstmuseum Basel. It also hosts Art Basel, one of the world's leading contemporary art fairs.
  • Old Town — The medieval Altstadt with its red sandstone Münster cathedral and market square is a short walk from most of the city.
  • The Rhine — Locals swim in the Rhine in summer; the riverside promenades are perfect for an evening stroll.
  • Food & Drink — Basel has a lively restaurant scene ranging from traditional Swiss cuisine to international options, with plenty of choices near the Dreispitz area.

Accommodation

Basel offers a wide range of hotels to suit all budgets, from international chains near Basel SBB to smaller boutique hotels in the Old Town. The Dreispitz area is well connected to the city centre by public transport.
